Job Description

The Physician is accountable for taking care of patients and completing all clinical responsibilities. Provides multidisciplinary team coordination services to the assigned areas. Provides medical education to residents, interns and other students. The incumbent participates in or contributes to an environment to advance medical research. The incumbent provides independent judgment in diagnosis and treatment of patients, formulation of treatment plans, and direction of the interdisciplinary team in achieving the goals of the patient care plan.

Essential Job Function:

  • Education and training necessitate the use of literature and attendance at regional and national events to uphold professional competence.
  • Joins educational endeavors for inpatients, staff, and professionals.
  • Engages in educational and research programs, including instructional content, formal teaching sessions, clinical teaching roles, staff education programs, and clinical research projects.
  • Liaison: Participates in liaison tasks with other members of the team and supports in fostering connections for patient referrals.
  • Consistently communicates with referring doctors to update them on patient care and results.
  • Patient Care involves administering hands-on and indirect care to patients in specific locations.
  • Offers medical supervision to the interdisciplinary team and instructs residents and medical students on their responsibilities.
  • Takes part in clinical research activities that are of interest.
  • Assists in the creation of accurate and timely documentation and approval of care to set up contemporary medical records for billing utilization.
  • Abides by Cone Health's professional standards by following the Medical Staff By-Laws, upholding Service Excellence obligations, adhering to practice guidelines, meeting physician expectations, and maintaining a professional demeanor.

  • Directs medical supervision and leads a collaborative team to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Maintains standards of safety and regulatory compliance in practice.
  • Dedicating efforts to continuous improvement and the implementation of evidence-based strategies plays a pivotal role in the pursuit of outstanding healthcare and services, with results reaching the 90th percentile or higher.
  • Comply with Cone Health's policies and regulations while maintaining records.
  • Participates in shaping clinical guidelines, strategies, initiatives, and offers recommendations to enhance the quality and efficacy of healthcare delivery.
  • Teams up with other physician members to handle on-call responsibilities in their respective areas.

Education:

  • Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
  • Also, medical degrees from other countries that are equivalent to the United States MD or DO degrees from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.

Experience:

  • Required: Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).

Licensure/Certification/Listing:

  • Required: Practitioner must have completed the number of years in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and met all other requirements for eligibility to receive board certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in the primary medical specialty (or subspecialty) for which the Practitioner is applying for Clinical Privileges.
  • If five (5) or more years have elapsed since the Practitioner completed such residency program, the Practitioner currently must have board-certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in such specialty (or subspecialty).
  • Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC. Meets requirements of the Cone Health Medical Staff by-laws and obtains the appropriate level of medical staff privileges.
  • The Practitioner must have a current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority (schedule limitations) resulting from DEA disciplinary actions.
  • Cone Health shall obtain and maintain in force professional liability insurance through commercial coverage or a program of self-insurance insuring MCAP and Physician for professional errors, omissions, negligence, incompetence, and malfeasance.
