Job Description
Working under the Provider's supervision, the Medical Assistant Certified collaborates with various healthcare professionals to deliver patient care based on standard care protocols that cater to the patient's specific condition, needs, and age. This role supports nursing, laboratory, clerical, and Physician staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes and quality care are achieved.
Essential Job Function:
- Supports in obtaining patient data that includes biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors.
- Inputs data, such as critical indicators, and carries out the treatment plan as specified by the Provider.
- Adopts protocols and standing orders in response to patient complaints or visit triggers.
- Conducts 12-lead electrocardiograms, administers specified respiratory therapies, and delivers other required patient interventions for which sufficient training has been completed and competencies have been validated.
- Responsible for the dispensing of oral and parenteral drugs, which may include immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin assessments, treatments, and alternative therapeutic approaches, following designated protocols and procedures as outlined by medical assisting regulations, under the guidance of supervisory doctors.
- Handles medication prior authorizations and communicates doctor's prescriptions to pharmacies using phone and fax when necessary.
- Maintains an organized system for booking appointments, giving priority to patients requiring immediate attention and managing patient flow efficiently.
- Ensures that all medical assistant procedures are accurately documented in the patient's medical record in a timely manner.
- Ensures that all required prior authorizations or pre-certifications are obtained for patients to meet safety protocol.
- Conveys the patient's situation, inquiries, and worries to the nursing personnel and physician to sort and deal with messages suitably.
- Executes any other responsibilities as delegated.
Education:
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Preferred: Medical Assistant Program.
Experience:
- Required: None
- Preferred: Completion of medical assistant program including clinical rotation and physician office experience.
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), National Health career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
- Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts.
