Job Description

The Patient Access ED Registration Specialist serves as the initial contact person, ensuring a friendly atmosphere and proactive response to the requirements of both internal and external clients within the emergency care department. Their duties involve correctly recognizing patients and finalizing details regarding personal, financial, legal, and health-related particulars.

Essential Job Function

  • Uses various tools and sources to carry out tasks with precision and speed in order to gather and input necessary details for enrollment in the digital healthcare platform.
  • Adheres to specified protocols for confirming identity and assigning a medical record identifier. Checks demographic and insurance details for accuracy and comprehensiveness, taking necessary steps to rectify any discrepancies promptly to prevent delays in collection procedures caused by incomplete or inaccurate data.
  • Ensures that patients in the emergency department receive registration steps compliant with EMTALA regulations.
  • Recognizes individuals displaying severe symptoms and initiates medical procedures accordingly.
  • Makes sure all necessary regulatory approvals are acquired.
  • Carefully and precisely records insurance validation details, recognizing deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and policy restrictions, confirming patient responsibilities with insurers, computes patient charges, collects payment during registration, and notes in the electronic health record.
  • Demonstrates consistent positive customer service actions towards every patient and visitor in order to enhance their overall experience.
  • Helps patients get to their designated location as required and oversees the flow of visitors following hospital regulations and safety protocols.
  • Carries out additional tasks as required.

Education

  • Required: Associate s degree in healthcare administration, medical office administration, or related field required.4 Years related experience in lieu of associate's degree.

Experience

  • Required: 1 year experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in patient registration, insurance verification, or a similar administrative role

Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • Preferred: Certification in healthcare administration (e.g., Certified Healthcare Access Associate CHAA)
