Job Description
The responsibilities of the Medical Assistant Certified involve participating in a patient-centered care approach led by the Provider, adhering to standardized care strategies tailored to the patient's specific circumstances, demands, and/or developmental stage. Under supervision, this role contributes to fostering favorable patient results and treatment by aiding nursing, laboratory, administrative, and Physician teams.
Essential Job Function:
- The duties of the Medical Assistant Certified involve administering patient care in collaboration with the Provider and in adherence to standard care protocols that suit the patient's illness, demands, or developmental stage.
- With minimal oversight, this position aids nursing, laboratory, administrative, and medical teams to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes.
- Contributes to obtaining patient data related to biological, psychological, social, and cultural elements. Records essential information like vital signs and executes the care plan under the guidance of the healthcare provider.
- Establishes protocols/standing directives depending on patient grievances or motive for consultation. Executes 12-lead EKGs, chosen respiratory therapies, and additional specified patient procedures after completing sufficient training and demonstrating competencies.
- Responsible for giving both oral and injectable medications, such as immunizations, controlled drugs, therapeutic injections, skin assessments, and various treatment methods, in adherence to established policies and procedures and the recognized benchmarks for medical assistants, as directed by overseeing physicians.
- Handles prior authorizations for medications when appropriate and relays doctor's orders to pharmacies via phone and fax when requested.
- Manages the booking of appointments, giving priority to patients with urgent needs and ensures a smooth patient flow.
- Ensures precise, comprehensive, and prompt documentation of all medical assistant tasks in the patient's record.
- Secures required pre-approvals or certifications before administering care to patients to adhere to safety protocols.
- Conveys patient status, inquiries, and issues to nursing personnel and doctor to prioritize and deal with messages effectively. Executes any other tasks as directed.
EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred: Medical Assistant Program.
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
None Preferred: Completion of medical assistant program including clinical rotation and physician office experience.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required:
Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Health career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider. **Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts.**
