Job Description
The Physician is accountable for taking care of patients and completing all clinical responsibilities. Provides multidisciplinary team coordination services to the assigned areas. Provides medical education to residents, interns and other students. The incumbent participates in or contributes to an environment to advance medical research. The incumbent provides independent judgment in diagnosis and treatment of patients, formulation of treatment plans, and direction of the interdisciplinary team in achieving the goals of the patient care plan.
Essential Job Function:
- Utilizing literature and attending regional and national meetings are essential components of staying current and competent in one's profession through education and training.
- Involves themselves in programs focused on educating inpatients, staff, and professionals.
- Participates in educational and research efforts, including didactic content, structured teaching sessions, educational meetings, staff training sessions, and clinical research projects.
- Involves in liaison activities with fellow professionals and aids in expanding avenues for patient referrals.
- Consistently communicates with referring doctors to update them on patient progress and response to treatment.
- Patient Care: Ensures the provision of patient care in designated areas, be it direct or indirect.
- Directs the interdisciplinary team and oversees the responsibilities of residents and medical students in their designated roles.
- Participates in studies focusing on their areas of interest in the clinical field.
- Maintains up-to-date medical records for billing by providing accurate and timely documentation and sign off of care.
- Models the professional standards outlined by Cone Health, which include the Medical Staff By-Laws, commitments to providing excellent service, adherence to practice standards, meeting physician expectations, and presenting a professional image.
- Operates in accordance with Cone Health's Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Reveals harmonious and polite relationships with co-workers, patients, associates, family, and visitors.
- Upholds the values of the Socratic Oath, protects patient information, and conducts oneself with integrity continuously.
- Collaborates in line with Cone Health's aspirations and assists in attaining desired outcomes.
- Takes part in medical audits, quality improvement initiatives, investigations, peer reviews, and other assessments connected to professional care standards as needed.
- Manages medical supervision and leads a team of professionals to deliver the highest level of care to each individual.
- Maintains compliance with regulations to uphold safe practices.
- Elevating Quality: Focuses on continuous improvements and utilization of evidence-supported strategies to elevate healthcare and service standards to exceptional levels (with outcomes consistently surpassing the 90th percentile).
- Abide by the record-keeping policies set by Cone Health and adhere to all applicable laws and regulations.
- Collaborates in the development of clinical norms, operations, strategies, and provides recommendations for elevating the excellence and effectiveness of healthcare provision.
- Divides exclusive on-call responsibilities with other doctors in the designated sectors.
Education:
- Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
- Also, medical degrees from other countries that are equivalent to the United States MD or DO degrees from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
Experience:
- Required: Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: Practitioner must have completed the number of years in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and met all other requirements for eligibility to receive board certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in the primary medical specialty (or subspecialty) for which the Practitioner is applying for Clinical Privileges.
- If five (5) or more years have elapsed since the Practitioner completed such residency program, the Practitioner currently must have board-certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in such specialty (or subspecialty).
- Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC. Meets requirements of the Cone Health Medical Staff by-laws and obtains the appropriate level of medical staff privileges.
- The Practitioner must have a current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority (schedule limitations) resulting from DEA disciplinary actions.
