Job Description
The key role of the Medical Laboratory Technician II involves conducting, evaluating, and validating laboratory tests on samples to assure precise and dependable results through adherence to defined policies and procedures. Working under direct oversight, this position is accountable for resolving issues and upkeeping complex machinery, prioritizing tasks to meet timelines, and staying current on skillsets and regulatory protocols. The Medical Laboratory Technician II is instrumental in furnishing accurate and timely diagnostic information that underpins patient care and treatment determinations.
Essential Job Function
- Carries out all steps involved in the examination of laboratory specimens, making sure to follow established regulations and protocols to secure accurate and trustworthy test results.
- Maintains the precision of specimen testing and reporting through quality control and assurance initiatives to support accurate diagnosis and treatment outcomes.
- Handles and addresses challenges in complicated measurement tools and test configurations, documenting required modifications before validating the test results for improved reliability.
- Demonstrates a commitment to meeting set deadlines and effectively organizing tasks to adhere to established laboratory turnaround times for the benefit of efficient patient care and treatment planning.
- Keeps abreast of annual competencies, continuing education tasks, and regulatory standards to ensure adherence to safety and compliance policies and procedures.
- Adheres to efficient supply usage practices and contributes proactively to inventory monitoring for the upkeep of a financially prudent and properly resourced lab.
- Carries out supplementary tasks as instructed.
Education
- Required: Associate's Degree in medical laboratory technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science.
Experience
- Preferred: 1 year working as a technologist in a hospital or similar physician office laboratory
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: Must have Medical Laboratory Technician certification in one of the following certifications upon hire:- Medical Laboratory Technician with ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or Medical Laboratory Technician with AMT (American Medical Technologists)
