Job Description

The duties of the Sous Chef involve aiding in the kitchen's everyday functions. They are in charge of preparing dishes following consultations with the Executive Chef regarding menu items and ingredient specifics. Furthermore, they oversee inspections to verify that the kitchen adheres to cleanliness, hygiene, and storage guidelines. They also provide guidance to kitchen staff on food service and safe food handling techniques to deliver exceptional service to patrons.

Essential Job Function

  • Handles the preparation, allocation, and delivery of meals following the periodic and seasonal menu schedule promptly and efficiently to maintain top-notch service standards.
  • Assists in the visual assessment and tasting of food to guarantee its quality, taste, and appropriate plating aesthetics.
  • Helps maintain accurate inventory records and places replenishment orders electronically to prevent depletion of stock.
  • Upholds standards and protocols to sustain a secure and hygienic food preparation atmosphere, while also adhering to federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.
  • Plays an active role in evaluating employees by furnishing feedback to the Director of Dining Services regarding staff performance.
  • Boosts the caliber and reliability of the menu through the examination of food production logs and menu expenditures; standardizing production formulas; inspiring kitchen personnel involvement in enhancing quality; researching, assessing, and restructuring methods; introducing adjustments.
  • Carries out any other assigned responsibilities.

Education

  • Preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Required: 7 years of professional cooking and 5 years of supervisory experience

Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • Required: Manager ServSafe within 6 months of hire
