Job Description
The Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Coordinator Registered Nurse coordinates care for patients with a ventricular assist device in collaboration with Cardiothoracic Surgery and Heart Failure Medical Directors. Working under general supervision, this role focuses on improving patient outcomes for this high-risk patient population.
Essential Job Function
- One aspect of preparing patients for surgeries involves the thorough education of patients and caregivers, and effective communication with the surgeon and cardiologist.
- Facilitate patient preparedness for procedures by completing required evaluations, tests, and discussions with the surgeon and cardiologist.
- Collecting patient data through evaluation and sharing it with the VAD team is pivotal in establishing a communication link to facilitate efficient care coordination.
- Coaches the Ventricular Assist Device Program and Nursing Department to enhance their expertise in the technical aspects of caring for high-risk patient populations.
- Patients and families are educated on ventricular assist devices and post-surgical care, which encompasses medication administration and daily routines to ensure a safe discharge.
- Refines patient treatment strategies by analyzing treatment responses and information to elevate patient care quality and enhance outcomes.
- Promotes quality initiatives and aligns with the care standards prescribed by the Joint Commission.
- Manages additional responsibilities as needed.
Education
- Required: Associate's DegreePreferred: Bachelor's Degree
Experience
- Required: 3 years as a Registered Nurse and 1 year in a clinical specialty as defined by ANCC or national nursing organizations
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required:Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or a Compact stateBLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
