Overview

The core function of this position is to ensure patient well-being and complete clinical tasks in a timely manner. It also entails coordinating services for multidisciplinary teams within specified areas. Moreover, the role involves educating medical trainees such as residents, interns, and other students. The incumbent is actively involved in creating a conducive environment for medical research advancement. They are entrusted with making independent judgments when diagnosing and treating patients, formulating treatment plans, and guiding the interdisciplinary team towards achieving patient care goals.

Responsibilities

  • Engages with literature and participates in regional and national conferences to stay updated and maintain professional competency. Takes part in educational programs for patients, staff, and professionals. Participation in educational and research activities involves engaging with didactic materials, leading formal teaching sessions, providing clinical education, organizing staff education conferences, and conducting clinical research.
  • Intermediary Role: Involves in liaison tasks with other professional team members and in nurturing relationships with sources of patient referrals. Provides regular updates to referring doctors regarding patient treatment and outcomes.
  • Patient Management; Administers direct and indirect patient supervision in allocated sectors. Provides medical oversight to the team of professionals and oversees interns and medical students in all their duties. Actively participates in clinical studies. Ensures accurate and timely recording and authorization of care delivery to maintain updated medical documentation for billing processes.
  • Professional Standards: Maintains the professional norms outlined by MCHS, encompassing the Medical Staff By-Laws, dedication to delivering exceptional service, adherence to practice norms, meeting physician requirements, and conforming to professional appearance guidelines. Aligns behaviors with the mission, vision, and values of MCHS. Demonstrates cooperative and considerate associations with peers, patients, coworkers, family, and guests. Respects patient secrecy, upholds the principles of the Socratic Oath, and displays integrity consistently. Supports MCHS's aims and benchmarks collaboratively.
  • Quality and Safety: Involves in medical inspections, quality advancement schemes, investigations, peer evaluations, and various other explorations concerning professional care standards as necessary. Provides medical direction and leadership to the interdisciplinary team to maximize benefits for individual patients. Ensures compliance with secure practice guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Quality Improvement: Engages in ongoing enhancements and adoption of evidence-supported practices to enhance healthcare and services, aiming for outcomes ranking at 90th percentile or above. Ensures adherence to MCHS policies, applicable laws, and regulations when recording information. Contributes to the development of clinical guidelines, protocols, and programs to improve the quality and efficacy of care. Collaborates with other physicians in the assigned areas to share designated on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board. Also medical degrees from other countries that are equivalent to the United States MD or DO degrees from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.

EXPERIENCE:Required: Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:

Required: Practitioner must have completed the number of years in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and met all other requirements for eligibility to receive board certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in the primary medical specialty (or subspecialty) for which the Practitioner is applying for Clinical Privileges

If five (5) or more years have elapsed since the Practitioner completed such residency program, the Practitioner currently must have board-certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in such specialty (or subspecialty).

Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC.

Meets requirements of the Moses Cone Health System Medical Staff by-laws and obtains the appropriate level of medical staff privileges.

The Practitioner must have a current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority (schedule limitations) resulting from DEA disciplinary actions.

Each Practitioner shall maintain in force professional liability insurance as determined by the Moses Cone Health System Medical Executive Committee and Board of Trustees; currently $1 million each incident and each occurrence, and $3 million aggregate.

The Practitioner must provide proof of professional liability insurance coverage, with a current certificate of insurance or a current copy of the policy. The professional liability insurance coverage shall be with a company approved by the North Carolina Insurance Commission and otherwise satisfactory to the Board of Trustees.
