Job Description
By following departmental standards, the Environmental Service Technician cleans and disinfects patient areas, treatment areas, restrooms, and public spaces to meet the hospital's customer service needs. This role works under close supervision to prevent the spread of illnesses by adhering to environmental and infection control standards established by external regulatory agencies.
Essential Job Function
- Records were maintained of cleaning tasks on the proper forms to ensure accurate documentation of items.
- Ensures the supervisor is kept in the loop regarding current tasks and collaborates on resolving any urgent or intricate issues.
- Supports in supervising supply levels to maintain a synchronization with departmental needs and budgetary objectives.
- Helps to ensure the cleanliness and functionality of equipment and storage areas for the efficient operation of the department.
- Manages carpet stain removal independently to maintain a hygienic and inviting atmosphere for guests and individuals in care.
- Offers assistance in selecting appropriate cleaning agents and tools to avert harm and sanitize effectively, reducing the risk of sickness.
- Cleans various areas per department standards to meet customer needs, encompassing routine and weekly cleaning tasks, as well as cleaning in discharge rooms, medication rooms, IV storage rooms, and refrigerators.
- Abstains from physical contact with medications and is always accompanied in spaces where narcotics are kept.
- Adjustments are made based on the prioritization of needs to ensure that the most crucial ones are addressed first.
- Completes tasks beyond the regular scope of work.
Education
- Required: Associate's Degree in Nursing
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Experience
- Required: 1 year as a Registered Nurse
- Preferred: 1 year in a clinical specialty as defined by ANCC or national nursing organizations
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or a Compact state, BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
