Job Description

The Speech-Language Pathologist II is tasked with evaluating and treating patients afflicted with speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing, as well as cognitive impairments. Competence in providing effective and efficient care to all patients in the clinical setting and fulfilling all responsibilities of a speech-language pathologist with minimal supervision is a primary requirement. The role necessitates independent practice within the primary environment and the potential need for guidance when faced with complex scenarios or when working in different settings. Effective communication with members of interdisciplinary teams, treating regular patients confidently, and serving as an advocate for both patients and the team are essential facets of this role.

Essential Job Function:

  • Provides comprehensive evaluations and care for diverse diagnoses and challenging patients.
  • Performs detailed evaluations on patients dealing with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing challenges to assess their communication and oral motor functions.
  • Collaborates in formulating and executing tailored intervention strategies rooted in evidence, patient objectives, and unique requirements.
  • Offers guidance to patients and their families about treatment regimens, exercises to be done at home, and strategies for self-care to enhance the effectiveness of the recovery process.
  • Observes and records the development of patients, the effectiveness of treatments, and reactions to interventions in order to make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
  • Partners with colleagues to develop and carry out discharge plans and suggestions for continued treatment.
  • Keeps concerned parties informed about the latest developments and existing state of affairs, which could involve family members or medical experts.
  • Aids in acclimating and instructing fresh personnel, displaying a consistent effort to boost the effectiveness and expertise of team members.
  • Undertakes any other tasks as delegated.

Education:

  • Required: Master's degree in Speech Pathology.

Experience:

  • Required: 2 years

Licensure/Certification/Listing:

  • Required: Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or is eligible to receive it through a Clinical Fellowship Year Licensed by the North Carolina Board for Speech Pathologists and Audiologists during their Supervised Experience Year BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
