Certified Medical Assistant II

In the capacity of a Certified Medical Assistant II, responsibilities encompass participating in team-based care delivery under the direction of the Provider, adhering to standard care protocols suitable for the patient's situation, needs, and age group. Daily duties undertaken can vary based on the particular medical specialty and the size of the healthcare facility. Operating with moderate guidance, this role aids nursing, administrative, and medical personnel in ensuring optimal patient outcomes and care quality. Moreover, this position is versatile and can be assigned to different roles, practice sites, and medical specialties to meet operational demands in tasks like front desk assistance, patient discharge, scheduling, and laboratory support.

Essential Job Function:

• Guides and supports medical assistants who are new to the field and students studying to become medical assistants.
• Skilled assessor for evaluating clinical proficiency.
• Plans and instructs regular educational sessions for the staff as directed by upper management.
• Coordinates and manages daily briefings to promote effective communication and teamwork among clinic employees.
• Oversees projects aimed at improving the quality or processes of the clinic at the behest of leadership.
• Manages the process of ordering supplies and medications for the clinic, ensuring adequate stock levels.
• Inputs data, including critical measurements, and executes the treatment regimen as per the healthcare provider's guidance.
• Utilizes protocols and standing orders according to the patient's complaint or reason for seeking medical attention.
• Executes 12-lead EKG screenings, administers chosen respiratory therapies, and aids healthcare providers in specialized procedures that have been adequately trained for and shown proficiency in.
• Provides oral and parenteral drug administration, which encompasses immunizations, controlled compounds, medical injections, skin examinations, and therapies, among other clinical interventions, following prescribed protocols and standards of medical assistance, while under the guidance of supervising medical professionals.
• Handles medication prior authorizations and transmits physician prescriptions to pharmacies via phone and fax when required.
• Maintains precise and thorough documentation of all medical assistant tasks performed within the medical record.
• Conveys patient's health updates, queries, and anxieties to medical staff for the purpose of prioritizing and handling incoming requests.
• Executes any other responsibilities as designated.

Education:

• Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Preferred: Medical Assistant Program.

Experience:

• Required: 2 years' work experience as Certified Medical Assistant.
• Preferred: SPICE Training, Fit-Test Training, Member of professional organization AAMA, experience leading quality or process improvement projects, experienced trainer, experienced in practice front office roles.

Licensure/Certification/Listing:

• Required: Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcare Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider Preferred: Advanced Certification in addition to BLS (ACLS, PALS, etc.).
• Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts.
• Medical Assistant Clinical Ladder Requires ongoing demonstration of competency validation to remain in the Medical Assistant II Certified role. Refer to the Clinical Ladder Assessment for a list to select five items annually. These are documented throughout the year as part of annual evaluation.
