Job Description
The Athletic Trainer Outreach role is instrumental in the assessment, therapy, and recovery of sports-related ailments, following the guidance and prescription of a physician. This function involves operating independently and cooperatively with physicians to deliver post-injury care and establish plans for injury prevention and treatment regimens for athletes who are injured. Responsibilities encompass providing coverage for daily practices and matches, supervising injury cases, organizing and administering tasks, implementing sports performance programs, and ensuring meticulous documentation. Acting as a liaison among family doctors, specialists, the educational institution, athletes, and their guardians is an integral part of this role, which requires flexibility to work beyond regular hours, including evenings and weekends, for games and special events.
Essential Job Function:
- Undertakes examinations to assess the condition of athletes, diagnoses their injuries, and decides on the appropriate course of action for their return to sports or if they require further medical care.
- Administers specified drugs and interventions prescribed by the team Physician to help restore the patient to a state of optimal well-being.
- Aiding in the evaluation and analysis of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions among athletes to recognize their specific demands.
- Delivers manual therapy sessions, soft tissue manipulation, electrical modalities, and hydrotherapy practices if suitable.
- The task involves educating patients on ways to avoid injuries, comprehend the anatomy of the body, practice correct body mechanics, and participate in rehabilitation for enduring health advantages.
- Prepares injury reports for the team doctor and tracks patient healing progress to help the physician adjust treatment plans effectively.
- Uses therapeutic techniques like heat application, ice therapy, electrical stimulation, and exercise regimens to assist in the recovery and healing of patients.
- Aids in determining if patients are ready to return to their usual activities following an injury.
- Illustrates the appropriate technique for taping, strapping, bracing, and adjusting athletic gear to aid in stabilizing injuries for rehabilitation.
- Carries out any other assigned responsibilities.
Education:
- Required: Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training or Physical Education w/ Athletic Training emphasis.
- Preferred: Master's of Science in Athletic Training.
Experience:
- Required: None
- Preferred: One year of professional experience or internship in sports medicine.
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: NATABOC Certification (National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification); LAT - Licensed Athletic Trainer by NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
