Job Description
As the first interaction point in the emergency care setting, the Patient Access ED Registration Specialist plays a crucial role in creating a hospitable environment and promptly addressing the requirements of both internal and external customers. This position is accountable for accurately verifying patient identities and recording their demographic, financial, regulatory, and medical particulars.
Essential Job Function:
- Leverages resources and equipment proficiently to fulfill obligations accurately and promptly, entering mandatory details for registration into the electronic health database.
- Ensures compliance with designated protocols for confirming positive identification and assigning medical record numbers while examining demographic and insurance particulars for accuracy, promptly addressing any deficiencies to prevent delays in collection processes due to insufficient or incorrect information.
- Ensures that registration processes for emergency department patients adhere to EMTALA guidelines.
- Recognizes individuals with urgent symptoms and implements clinical protocols promptly.
- Obtains signatures from regulatory bodies as required.
- Thoroughly documents insurance validation information, such as deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and policy limits, confirms patient liabilities with payers, calculates patient dues, collects payments during registration, and inputs the details in the electronic health record system.
- Demonstrates a continuous commitment to displaying excellent customer service behaviors towards all patients and visitors to ensure positive patient interactions.
- Helps patients reach their required locations and regulates the flow of visitors in adherence to hospital guidelines for safety.
- Undertakes other assignments as designated.
Education:
- Required: Associate degree in healthcare administration, medical office administration, or related field required.4 Years related experience in lieu of associate's degree.
Experience:
- Required: 1 year experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in patient registration, insurance verification, or a similar administrative role.
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Preferred: Certification in healthcare administration (e.g., Certified Healthcare Access Associate CHAA).
