Job Description

The role of the Respiratory Therapist Relief Tier 2 involves the assessment of patients suffering from respiratory conditions, the performance of diagnostic evaluations, the formulation of treatment blueprints, and the provision of respiratory therapy. Essential tasks include the operation of medical apparatus, the surveillance of patient feedback, and the delivery of emergency healthcare services as required. Interacting closely with healthcare professionals is important for the management of respiratory afflictions, the enhancement of pulmonary capacities, and the promotion of patient welfare. Within the framework of limited oversight, this position also imparts education to patients regarding respiratory well-being and strategies for preventing respiratory illnesses.

Essential Job Function:

  • Enhances pulmonary capacity and eases pain by organizing and delivering medically recommended respiratory care.
  • Offers excellent care through the administration of pulmonary function assessments, the evaluation and interpretation of tests and results, and the establishment of respiratory therapy plans in consultation with physicians and as prescribed.
  • Supporting patients in executing their treatment regimen through the provision of inhalants, operation of mechanical ventilators, administration of therapeutic gases, management of environmental control systems, and utilization of aerosol generators.
  • Provides respiratory therapy treatments by executing bronchopulmonary drainage, supporting with respiratory exercises, and overseeing how the body responds to therapy through monitoring vital signs, arterial blood gases, and changes in blood chemistry.
  • Examining the results of respiratory therapy interventions includes observing, recording, and analyzing a patient's development and proposing modifications as needed.
  • Ensures comprehensive discharge plans by engaging with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers, including physicians, nurses, and social workers during patient care discussions.
  • Executes any other responsibilities given.

Education:

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduate of accredited RT program, licensed by NC Board of Respiratory Care.

Experience

  • No experience required, Graduate of an accredited respiratory care program.

Licensure/Certification/Listing:

  • Required: Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care as an RRT Licensed by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board as a CRT or RRT; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider ACLS-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must obtain RRT within 6 months of employment.
