Job Description
The Occupational Therapist II assesses patients’ conditions and develops, coordinates, and delivers rehabilitation programs aimed at restoring optimal function, enhancing mobility, reducing pain, building strength, and preventing or minimizing deformities caused by illness or injury. The role also includes educating patients and their families. This therapist independently and effectively manages all patients within their primary clinical setting, performing occupational therapy responsibilities with minimal supervision. They proactively communicate with interdisciplinary team members, confidently treat familiar patient populations, and advocate for both patients and colleagues. While able to practice independently in their main setting, they may seek guidance in more complex cases and may experience challenges when providing coverage in unfamiliar practice areas.
Essential Job Function
- Assesses and provides treatment for a full range of diagnoses, including patients with more complex conditions.
- Conducts thorough evaluations of patients' physical abilities, medical history, and functional limitations to develop individualized treatment plans.
- Implements therapeutic exercises and additional occupational therapy interventions designed to enhance patients’ strength, flexibility, and range of motion.
- Educates patients and their families on treatment plans, home exercises, and self-management techniques to improve recovery outcomes.
- Works collaboratively with team members to develop and carry out discharge plans and recommendations for ongoing care, occasionally seeking guidance from colleagues as needed.
- Monitors and documents patients' progress, treatment outcomes, and responses to interventions so that treatment plans can be adjusted as needed.
- Collaborates on teams from different departments to ensure coordinated patient care and holistic treatment outcomes.
- Supports the onboarding and training of new staff and consistently demonstrates a commitment to enhancing the performance and professional development of colleagues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy
Experience
- Required: 2 years
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: Licensed by the North Carolina Occupational Therapy Board; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
