The Radiation Therapist administers concentrated amounts of ionizing radiation to precise regions of the patient's body to manage illnesses, particularly cancer. Their responsibilities involve implementing detailed treatment strategies developed by radiation oncologists, specifying the kind, amount, and timeframe of radiation therapy essential for each patient. Utilizing sophisticated equipment like linear accelerators and various radiation-emitting apparatus, this position accurately aims radiation beams at the specified location.
Responsibilities:
Follows by prescribed treatment protocols and guidelines to administer accurate radiation levels to specific sites, reducing harm to neighboring normal cells.
Places and secures patients on therapy tables, guaranteeing they are positioned correctly for precise radiation therapy targeting.
Carries out pre-treatment checks to confirm that the equipment configurations match the specified treatment outline.
Performs practice runs of procedures and offers patients detailed information regarding treatment processes, possible adverse reactions, and the anticipated experience throughout their appointments.
Provides emotional assistance to patients, attending to their worries and ensuring a positive treatment atmosphere. Enforces safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure for patients, healthcare workers, and oneself during therapy sessions.
Records information about the treatment procedures, settings of the equipment, the responses of the patients, and any notable findings.
Observes patients for any negative responses and effectively communicates with the medical staff regarding any developments or issues.
