Job Description

The Speech Language Pathologist II is tasked with assessing and addressing the needs of patients experiencing a range of speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing, and cognitive challenges. Competence in delivering care autonomously within the designated clinical setting, as well as proficiency in executing all responsibilities of a speech-language pathologist under minimal supervision, are key requirements for this role. While the position calls for self-sufficiency in the primary work environment, support and guidance may be necessary in complex situations or during transitions between settings. As part of the role, fostering communication among team members, treating patients confidently, and advocating for both patients and the team are essential components. Essential Job Function:

  • Assesses and provides treatment for a wide range of diagnoses and complex cases.
  • Engages in detailed evaluations of patients experiencing speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing difficulties to assess their communication and oral motor proficiencies.
  • Plays a role in designing and carrying out individualized intervention strategies driven by assessment results, patient goals, and personal requirements.
  • Offers guidance to patients and their families on treatment blueprints, exercises for use at home, and strategies for self-care to advance the results of their recovery.
  • Monitors and registers patients' advancements, how they respond to treatments, and the effects of interventions to facilitate potential revisions to their treatment schedules.
  • Engages with colleagues to develop and implement discharge plans and guidance for ongoing support.
  • Conveys progress and current status to the necessary individuals, potentially including loved ones or healthcare providers.
  • Helps with the orientation and coaching of recently hired staff, exhibits a consistent dedication to advancing the proficiency and talent of coworkers.
  • Undertakes other duties as directed.

Education:

  • Required: Master's degree in Speech Pathology.

Experience:

  • Required: 2 years.

Licensure/Certification/Listing:

  • Required: Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or is eligible to receive it through a Clinical Fellowship Year. Licensed by the North Carolina Board for Speech Pathologists and Audiologists during their Supervised Experience Year and BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
