Job Description
The specialist in Occupational Therapy assesses the conditions of patients, creates and coordinates rehabilitative plans intended to aid in the restoration of ideal functional abilities, enhance mobility, alleviate pain, boost strength, and lessen or avert deformities in patients grappling with diseases or injuries. They also offer education for patients and their families. This position serves as a knowledgeable figure in daily practices or a specific segment of patient care. They act as a fount of expertise and provide guidance for clinical applications, quality enhancement, and program development to assist the manager. They are expected to competently execute all necessary duties of an occupational therapist seamlessly across all types of diagnoses and complexities.
Essential Job Function
- Directs thorough appraisals of patients' physical aptitudes, medical backgrounds, and functional boundaries, merging this information to devise personalized treatment schemes.
- Implements therapeutic exercises and supplementary approaches aimed at enhancing the physical strength, adaptability, and extent of movement in patients.
- Instructs patients and their caregivers on treatment regimens, exercises to be done at home, and self-directed methods to advance the outcomes of recuperation.
- Teams up with others to develop and carry out discharge plans and recommendations for continuous care.
- Observes and documents the development of patients, treatment results, and responses to interventions to facilitate adjustments to treatment plans.
- Partners with teams across different departments to promote integrated patient care and holistic treatment results.
- Serving as a subject matter expert, this individual takes the lead in clinical practice within a specified area, remaining informed about evidence-based approaches and providing input for integration into practice.
- Directs programs and ventures connected to a particular domain.
- Engages with coworkers to allocate relevant patients/tasks to fellow team members to create space for own professional tasks.
- Undertakes supplementary duties as specified.
Education
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy
Experience
- Required: 6 years
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: Licensed by the North Carolina Occupational Therapy Board; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
