Job Description
Under supervision, the Medical Assistant Certified collaborates with the healthcare team to provide patient care according to standard protocols suitable for the patient's age, condition, and needs, as directed by the Provider. This role involves supporting nursing, laboratory, administrative, and Physician teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes and quality care delivery.
Essential Job Function:
- Supports the process of collecting patient data which includes biological, psychological, social, and cultural aspects.
- Records data, like essential health indicators, and follows through with the care plan under the physician's guidance.
- Creates procedures and standardized instructions based on the patient's concern or reason for seeking medical attention.
- Executes 12-lead ECGs, conducts specific respiratory interventions, and fulfills other assigned patient care responsibilities following demonstrated competency.
- Administers both oral and parenteral drugs, which may include immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin assessments, and various treatment methods according to specific guidelines and standards for medical assistants, all while under the supervision of physicians.
- Handles prior authorizations for medications and relays physician prescriptions to pharmacies via phone and fax when needed.
- Manages the booking of appointments to prioritize patients in emergency conditions and maintain efficient patient flow.
- Ensures the comprehensive and precise documentation of every medical assistant procedure in the patient's health records.
- Acquires pre-authorization or precertification as required to meet safety regulations for patients.
- Transmits information on patient well-being, inquiries, and worries to nursing team and physician to prioritize and manage inquiries effectively.
- Executes tasks beyond the usual responsibilities.
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or EquivalentPreferred: Medical Assistant Program
Experience
- Required: NonePreferred: Completion of medical assistant program including clinical rotation and physician office experience
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required:Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), National Health career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider. Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts.
