Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers high-quality patient care and ensures positive patient outcomes through the compassionate and efficient application of nursing knowledge. Working under general supervision, this role promotes professional nursing practice by coordinating patient care through the nursing process and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Essential Job Function:
- Evaluates, devises plans, implements, documents, organizes, prioritizes, delegates, supervises, and coordinates the care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations as prescribed by the NC Nurse Practice Act.
- Assists in caring for patients utilizing the nursing process for planning, implementing, and assessing nursing care. Gathers and interprets patient and significant other information.
- Develops an admission database and conducts ongoing assessments, actively involving patients, significant others, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Tailors patient care plans to meet the age-specific needs of patients and their families, implementing clinical pathways when appropriate to deliver individualized care.
- Detects variations and adjusts the care plan by evaluating its efficacy and nursing interventions.
- Maintains and revises the plan of care, nursing care, interventions, and patient's response to care, while keeping the healthcare team, patients, and relevant individuals informed.
- Plays a role in the discharge plan by identifying the essential homecare necessities. Acknowledges any variations in patients' conditions and adjusts the care plan accordingly.
- Demonstrates advanced skills and critical thinking capabilities in their day-to-day work. Identifies and fulfills the educational needs of patients and significant others.
- Nurtures caring and supportive relationships within the healthcare team, patients, and their significant others.
- Recognizes impediments to effective communication, identifies available aids, and devises plans to overcome communication barriers.
- Shows acceptance of diversity and cultural disparities in patients/significant others related to age, ethnicity, gender, religion, socioeconomics, education, personality, or other unique variables.
- Generate personalized interventions to manage specific requirements regarding diversity, cultural diversity, or other unique elements. Champions for the patient or their significant companion.
- Displays skill in meeting customer demands by responding thoughtfully to the particular context of the situation.
- Endorses the establishment of a culture that supports evidence-based practices, research ventures, and quality enhancement efforts.
- Shows understanding of Shared Governance duties and principles, collaborates with the department's shared governance council either as a council member or by staying knowledgeable about council operations and endorsing council resolutions, raises matters for the council's attention.
- - Shows understanding of the tools and techniques necessary to explore online platforms featuring policies, procedures, standards, and supplemental resources.
- Contributes to the achievement of departmental objectives and initiatives by taking part in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research activities.
- Displays understanding of resource management and takes proactive steps to leverage potential opportunities. Gathers data on quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research, participating in the evaluation and creation of action plans, and integrating modifications into daily operations. Engages in continuous activities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards imposed by organizations like The Joint Commission (TJC), the Department of Financial Services (DFS), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Manages and mentors team members. Contributes to building a supportive and vibrant work environment.
- Ensures that both personal and collective alignment with guidelines, protocols, and regulations is upheld.
- Partakes in appraising educational necessities. Offers input for the precepting and mentoring process.
- Delegates appropriate tasks to support staff members, ensures that tasks are completed, and provides feedback as needed.
- Encourages a culture of teamwork and mutual respect. Supervises chosen individuals in their delivery of patient care.
- Shows prowess in negotiation and conflict resolution strategies.
- Upholds the importance of maintaining a work setting that is positive, supportive, and professional with no room for disruptive behaviors.
- Approach professional interactions with kindness and consideration, acknowledging and respecting the intrinsic value and distinctiveness of every individual.
- Follows the chain of command for assistance with unresolved problems and conflict resolution. Provides, seeks, and accepts constructive feedback.
- Encourages peer-to-peer feedback and seeks mediation if needed to support effective conflict resolution.
Education
- Required: Associate's Degree in Nursing
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Experience
- Required: 1 year as a Registered Nurse
- Preferred: 1 year in a clinical specialty as defined by ANCC or national nursing organizations
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or a Compact state, BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
